When Ria received that 911 text message from Julie she panicked. A 911 wasn't a simple 'I forgot there was a test tomorrow and I need help studying'. A 911 meant, 'help, I think I'm being followed' or 'help, I think there might be a stranger in the house'. So there was a good reason for Ria's spike in anxiety and fear.

Although seeing as how her her friend's dad's car recently pulled up into the driveway, at the most the girl expected to find her friend huddled inside, probably paranoid after watching a scary movie (it's happened before).
