Breathing down her neck, Madison froze. Leaning, I rested my forehead on the back of her head, my hand intertwining her hand that was still on the doorknob.

I was tired. My voice came out raspy when I whispered into her ear. "Don't make me beg. I refuse to accept your friendship. I don't want it, I don't need it."

Fully alarmed by our situation, Madison responded. "There's nothing more I can offer you."
